Delgado was born in Barcelona in 1890. She began dancing at a young age, and by the time she was a teenager, she was performing in cabarets all over Europe. In 1914, she moved to Paris, where she quickly became one of the most popular dancers in the city.
When the war broke out in 1939, Delgado was living in Paris with her husband, a French diplomat. She immediately joined the Resistance, and began using her connections in the cabaret scene to gather intelligence for the Allies.
Delgado was a master of disguise, and she was able to move freely among the German occupiers. She would often attend parties and social gatherings, where she would eavesdrop on conversations and collect information about German troop movements and plans.
Delgado's intelligence was invaluable to the Allies. She provided information that helped them plan the D-Day landings, and she also helped to identify and capture German spies.
In 1944, Delgado was arrested by the Gestapo. She was tortured and interrogated, but she never revealed any of her secrets. She was eventually released, and she continued to work for the Resistance until the war ended.
After the war, Delgado returned to her dancing career. She continued to perform until her death in 1962. She was awarded the Croix de Guerre for her bravery and service to France.
Anita Delgado was a remarkable woman who played a vital role in the French Resistance during World War II. Her story is an inspiring reminder of the courage and determination of the people who fought for freedom against tyranny.
