The Band is a Canadian-American rock group formed in Toronto in 1967. The group's original lineup consisted of Robbie Robertson (guitar, vocals),Rick Danko (bass, vocals),Richard Manuel (keyboards, vocals),and Garth Hudson (keyboards, accordion). History

The Band's roots can be traced back to the early 1960s, when Robertson and Danko met in Toronto. The two musicians began playing together in various local bands, and in 1965 they formed a group called Levon and the Hawks. The Hawks toured extensively throughout the United States and Canada, and in 1966 they released their debut album, Music From Big Pink.

In 1967, The Hawks changed their name to The Band and released their second album, The Band. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish The Band as one of the most popular and influential rock groups of the era. The Band continued to release successful albums throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s, including Music From Big Pink, The Band, Stage Fright, and Cahoots.

In 1976, The Band broke up. Robertson left the group to pursue a solo career, and the other members went their separate ways. However, The Band reunited in 1983 for a series of concerts and a new album, Jericho. The group continued to tour and record sporadically throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
